I believe that a key characteristic of an exceptional society is the willingness of its members to dedicate their personal time and resources to support activities and services that benefit everyone. This philosophy, placing service before self, resonates deeply with me. Around 25 years ago, I arrived in Whatcom County when I was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, while my wife pursued her studies at Western Washington University. From the moment we set foot here, we were captivated by the charm of this place, and it has been our cherished home ever since.
Throughout the years, I have been immensely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this community using my unique skills and abilities. Whether it involved replanting trees in Whatcom Falls Park after the Olympic pipeline explosion or lending a helping hand at the Lighthouse mission, I have gladly devoted my time to various endeavors. Now, as your Cemetery District 7 Commissioner, I see another avenue to serve in a community that holds a special place in my heart.
Cemetery districts may be one of the smallest forms of local governance, but their importance should not be understated. It is their responsibility to provide affordable burial options and ensure that everyone within their jurisdiction has access to a dignified final resting place. Moreover, fostering an atmosphere of respect and compassion towards the departed and their loved ones is crucial. As your Cemetery District 7 Commissioner, my foremost objective is to fulfill these goals. Thank you for entrusting me with this opportunity to serve.
In the heart of Washington state, where history meets community, a unique challenge awaits our attention. Welcome Today, I invite you to explore the significant challenges that our cherished cemetery districts are confronting, and why it's imperative for us to come together to address them.

Established in 1880, Whatcom County Cemetery District No. 7 has a rich history that spans over a century. Legend has it that two white men were buried at this site in the early 1820s, but historical records confirm the oldest burial as Mr. Seriah Stevens, a Civil War veteran who passed away on February 10, 1881. Over the years, the district has been devoted to preserving and maintaining the sacred grounds of Enterprise Cemetery, providing a dignified space for remembrance and reflection. What sets Whatcom County Cemetery District No. 7 apart is its unique organizational structure. As a special-purpose government entity, it operates independently from the county government. The district is governed by a dedicated board of commissioners who oversee its operations, make policy decisions, allocate budgets, and shape its direction, ensuring the cemetery remains a cherished part of the community.
If we join together and make our voices heard, we can fight for the change we want to see!
